PMO-POT21 View Herdade do Mouchão's Producer Page Herdade do Mouchão 2021 Ponte Tinto There is more development here, with a good aromatic complexity of black fruit supported by coffee and black pepper notes. As with all the upper level reds, a little decanting will do wonders here, as the wine has enough liveliness and freshness to support the air. • Polz

Polz Polz If you have a long memory, you will recall that this iconic estate was part of Terry Theise’s opening Austrian portfolio. We were therefore delighted when the family approached us to see if we would be interested in resuming relations, since we had nothing but positive recollections of our earlier co-operation. Styrian wines sell with the utmost of ease on the Austrian market, but have not done as well in America, perhaps because they compete so directly with other countries practising the “international” varieties, often at lower prices. So credit our farsighted friends for consciously offering us their wines at extremely competitive prices. The quality is unimpeachable across the range, from the entry-level Steirische Spiegel range to the trophies emanating from their celebrated single sites of Hochgrassnitzberg and Obegg. Polz has grown to a quite considerable size over the years. The core estate in Spielfeld sits quite literally on the Slovenian border, and offers as dramatic a picture as can be imagined, with its intersecting patchwork of vineyards trained at different angles across the steep folds of this verdant landscape. Because rainfall is so heavy in this region, grass and other cover crops are allowed to freely grow in all the rows, both to encourage competition and to fix the soil against erosion. Styria has now joined the DAC system, which is going to bring with it some very interesting changes to how the wines are categorized and sold. Young Christoph Polz, who has been making the wines now for the last several years, seems exceptionally well qualified to face the many challenges this and other developments will present him with. He and his younger brother Erich have now taken over the direction of the estate. 1/0 Producer: Polz Country: Austria Region: Südsteiermark Subregion: Südsteiermark City of Origin: Spielfeld Date Founded: 1912 Owner Name: Erich Polz, Walter Polz Vineyard Size: 80 HA Total Annual Production: 400,000 Download Info Sheet Property History: Our winery is situated in one of the best wine-growing locations in the Styria region of Austria. The geological nature of the soil, the many hours of sunshine and well-distributed rainfall are virtually ideal conditions for vinicultural purposes. However, the quality of the wine cannot be solely attributed to the favourable assistance of Mother Nature. Experience gathered over decades, the sustainability of thought and deed as well as uncompromisingly high quality standards are what turn a good harvest into a wine full of character. As such, our name Polz has stood for generations for a “terroir” that is cultivated almost exclusively by hand, thus enabling our produce to testify to our passionate commitment and loving attention to detail. Owner History: Erich & Walter took over in the mid 80´s. In 1994 they were the founding members of STK. STK-Steirische Terroir & Klassik Weingüter- is a free association of today 12 estates that have commited themselves to our region-specific wine culture and to outstanding quality. A very old region of glowing valleys, since centuries known for the production of wines of excellent quality of Cercial, Bical and Maria Gomes. The rural scenery is dominated by the Caramulo mountain. A traditional method with big identity and a well defined Atlantic character. The mousse is very steady and the delicate bubbles are equal and moderately generous. It has a fine nose which combines white blossom and peary aromas, subtile hints of aniseed and smoky flavors. The taste is vibrant with a nice harmony between lemony and salty (iode) flavors. It balances perfectly in the mouth with a certain buttery creaminess and a crispy, mineral finish. This is an elegant wine with freshness, strength, minerality and a mellow fruitiness. • Quinta do Pinto

Quinta do Pinto Quinta do Pinto Rather as Vienna’s wines are something of an afterthought to many in an Austrian context, so do the wines of Portugal’s capital, Lisbon, suffer occlusion from the bigger shadow thrown by the Douro, Dão and Vinho Verde. But, there are no fewer than ten sub-districts to this region and they offer an impressive variety of wines, from the commanding age-worthy reds of Colhares to the vivid wines of Alenquer. We were immediately struck by the authenticity of the wines here, which so clearly matches that of its proprietors, sisters Rita and Ana Cardoso Pinto. The vineyards are planted to no fewer than 27 varieties, both autochthonous and international, in clay and limestone soils on gentle slopes that enjoy a southern exposure. The proximity to the Atlantic confers a cool lift that is most welcome. Production methods are integrated and all yeasts are native. As you can see, patience is a watchword at this estate, as it is with so many of our favorites. vinhos (65).jpg vinhos (64).jpg vinhos (1).jpg vinhos (65).jpg 1/5 Producer: Quinta do Pinto Country: Portugal Region: Lisbon Subregion: Alenquer appellation City of Origin: Merceana Owner Name: Antonio Cardoso Pinto Vineyard Size: 63 HA Total Annual Production: 150,000 Download Info Sheet Property History: Quinta do Pinto is a family owned and run estate committed to produce boutique wines with the expression of the atlantic coast on the Alenquer appellation. Records show that the wines produced in this estate in the past century were so differentiated that they we worth one more Pinto coin – the vintém coin that was the currency at the time.
