GCB-109 View Bernhard's Producer Page Bernhard 2016 Hackenheimer Kirchberg Scheurebe Kabinett Bernhard really has a special touch with this characterful grape. This new vintage bursts with the grapefruit and blackcurrant notes we look for, while maintaining an exemplary balance of sweetness and acidity, and sporting the oversized mineral charge characteristic of the estate in 2016. SEP-FDC18 View Eladio Pineiro's Producer Page Eladio Pineiro 2018 Frore de Carme Albarino Eladio subjects this, his top selection of Albariño, to a predictably complex aging regime ; 12 months on its own lees, with regular, batonnage, three further months on the lees of vintage 2019, and then two years more in bottle before the first release in August 22. Ch. Canon Chaigneau Ch. Canon Chaigneau This beautifully situated château was taken over from the long-time owners, the Marin family, by the dynamic Romik Arconian and his viticulturist partner Marine Fontana. Romik is an Anglo-Armenian gentleman of immense personal charm who came to this privileged corner of Bordeaux from a successful career as a wine merchant in Paris. He has had the wisdom and good fortune to retain the services of Louis Marin as “chef de culture”, thus ensuring continuity of practice. More importantly, the wines continue to be made by Thierry Garnaud, who was the “maître de chai” at Ch. Cheval Blanc, no less, from 1988 – 2018. He and Marin are childhood friends, and he brings to the task (his since 1995!) an unmatched pedigree and class. The viticulture is conducted according to “la lutte raisonnée”, and the estate has been accorded the accolade of “Haute Valeur Environmentale” by the French Ministry of Agriculture. 1/5 Producer: Ch. Canon Chaigneau Country: France Region: Bordeaux Subregion: Lalande-de-Pomerol City of Origin: Néac Date Founded: 2010 Owner Name: Romik Arconian Vineyard Size: 21 Total Annual Production: 8000-11000 cases Download Info Sheet Property History: Wines have been made on the Néac plateau since the Roman times, the ample advantages to making complex and delicious wines apparent to early vintners. 21 hectares of clay & limestone with iron deposits, at the highest point of the Néac plateau, and in the continuity of the most prestigious part of the Pomerol plateau, 800 meters as the crow flies, from Château Petrus. As Decanter magazine says, the plateau is, '...essentially a continuation of that of Pomerol itself, and the majority of the best crus of Lalande are found in this corner of the appellation.’ Owner History: Romik Arconian, London born wine merchant, with his partner Marine & their young family, took over Canon Chaigneau in 2020, with the ambition of making it a leader in the appellation & whole region (though the wines were already pretty damn good!) Romik has been inthe wine business 25 years; founding Grands Crus Paris & it’s retail online store, www.crus.fr, plus the much loved Parisian natural wine bar and shop, le Garde Robe. Wines By Ch. HTE-RETNV View Tetramythos's Producer Page Tetramythos N.V. Retsina Tetramythos have stormed Europe with this revolutionary version of Greece’s most infamous vinous product. Treated with a seriousness never before accorded it by anyone, it is made from the estate’s organic Roditis grapes (rather than the Savatiano almost universally employed elsewhere), to which is added before fermentation a moderate quantity of resin drawn from pine trees growing on the property. 40% is fermented on wild yeasts in amphorae, the balance in stainless steel. Extended lees aging is the final touch before bottling. The result is an understated, elegantly dry wine that is a cinch with Mediterranean seafood dishes and will banish forever dubious memories of Greek beach holidays. Am Berg Am Berg Mittelberg is a scant three kilometers from Langenlois and, at 400 m. average elevation, somewhat higher. Yet there is quite a different atmosphere in this quiet village. Our new discovery belongs to the Gruber family (one of many so named here) which has been cultivating vines and other crops for many generations. The current one is represented by Michael, a reflective but ambitious man. The estate is in its tenth year of organic conversion. We were struck by the sheer brio and purity of the wines, many of which hail from vineyards familiar to us from the big guns of Langenlois. The estate stretches to 13 hectares, distributed between ten sites, with three distinct soil types (Urgestein, loess and loam). The price-quality relationship is exceptional, and we think we have a star here. They are one vintage away from organic certification! 1/0 Producer: Am Berg Country: Austria Region: Kamptal Subregion: Mittelberg City of Origin: Mittelberg Date Founded: Family Gruber 1451 Owner Name: Ludwig and Michael Gruber Vineyard Size: 15 HA Total Annual Production: 90,000 Download Info Sheet Property History: Our idea is to craft wines that are textural, complex and food friendly. To do this, we take grapes since centuries from a handful of specially selected vineyard sites around Mittelberg and Langenlois, each of which contribute different flavours and aromas to the wine. The resulting wine gives complexity and depth to our wines. We want to show with our wines the unique terroir of the Kamptal" -Ludwig VI. Owner History: The Gruber family likes to keep things simple so they have a small (and friendly!) team. A small team means everyone can be fully involved in the winemaking from start to finish. It’s just Michael, Ludwig junior, mother Melitta, father Ludwig and the unique grandmother. It also means Michael, the winemaker, can spend his whole time in the winery and vineyards making wine rather than managing a large team of people. Great winery facilities allow them to pick their grapes when they think they are ripe. The family members go through our vineyards together and taste the grapes before they start to pick all the grapes by hand. Family means they have the benefit of generations of experience through the ups and downs of vine-growing. Ainda means ‘yet’ or ‘still’. 40 different grapes, old vines, purchased grapes, 20-25% white grapes. As the whites ripen sooner than the white it brings some richness and masks the tannins, so it is drinkable sooner than the reds. In the past, people wanted it sooner which is why palhete was such a popular style. This cuvée aim at maintaining alive this portuguese traditional style.
