FCC-C8A22 View Ch. Canon Chaigneau's Producer Page Ch. Canon Chaigneau 2022 Cuve 8a Romik was inspired to create this cuvée, aged entirely in concrete (“beton”) by his long-time admiration for Ch. Belair Marquis d’Aligre, now a highly fashionable Margaux cru, whose wines never sees the inside of an oak barrel! We were joined by Neal Martin of Vinous magazine in especially appreciating the joyous succulence of the Merlot which is nicely seasoned. This is a version of Bordeaux that seems almost entirely original, and brought to our jaded palates a jolt of pleasure that hasn’t ceased! It has a fresh bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, light floral and orange blossom scents. The palate is well-balanced and lightly spiced, with good definition, grainy tannins and a very elegant and persistent finish. I look forward to tasting this from bottle - great potential.‘ Neal Martin, 91-93 ‘This is the unoaked cuvée, which can be a little austere in most vintages, but in the rich exuberance of 2022, it works. Remains a little tart in its acidity but there is great depth and intent to the black fruits, and momentum through the palate...’ Jane Anson, 90 ‘Notes of blue fruit and violets with spices and wet stones. Medium-bodied, toned and crunchy with fine-grained, silky tannins. Fresh finish.’ James Suckling, 91-92 ‘The Cuve 8a by Canon Chaigneau is characterized by fresh, floral nuances. The bouquet reveals delicate notes of peonies and the refreshing scent of raspberries. The fruit intensity can also be found in the beginning. The wine is of good density, tasty and is supported by tannins that are still somewhat firm, but harmonizing with the acid structure. I think time will round off the rough edges a bit, but actually you have to praise the energy, the dynamics and the ambitions that are in this wine.’ Yves Beck, 92-93 Soil Types Clay, Gravel Elevation (meters) 45 Vine Age 35 Yields (hl/ha) 45 Farming Practices Certified Sustainable, HVE level 4 Certified, Practicing Organic, Practicing Biodynamic, Practicing Regenerative Harvest Method Machine Notes from the Producer: First time ever 100% merlot! a 100% merlot pure expession of our sensational terror! The latter is typical in the Kraichgau, but with the exception of a few patches in France (in the Jura, Burgundy, and the Rhone Valley), colored marl is seldom found elsewhere in the world. This type of soil lends the wines a special, fruity-mineral character that is particularly prevalent in the premium wines from the so-called Grosse Lagen (vineyards classified by the VDP as the very finest of a respective region). Notes from the Producer: The grapes are gently harvested by hand, carefully sorted, and slowly pressed after about 24 hours of skin contact. They are grown in colored marl soils that are partially covered by a top layer of loess. The wine is soft and rich in substance, with aromas of pear, red apple, and white currant. GHE-BDN19 View Heitlinger's Producer Page Heitlinger 2019 Blanc de Noir Brut Nature Sekt Welcome to the original world of Claus Burmeister. I guess he heard that this grape is grown in Champagne, so why not try his hand at it himself? He had a couple of ideas. One was to ferment 30% of the juice in oak. Another was to use the original grape juice for the secondary fermentation in bottle. A third was to add no dosage at the end. The result is a wine with a haunting scent of wild strawberries that evokes champagne without in any way imitating it. We are gratified by the market’s enthusiastic embrace of this beautiful sparkling Schwarzriesling (as the Germans call this grape). Every year during pruning, the most suitable parcels of a site are selected specifically for the purpose of producing Sekt acccording to the traditional method. The grapes are cared for throughout the growing season just as they would be in Champagne. Then they are harvested by hand and their juice is gently extracted through whole cluster pressing to produce a top-quality sparkling wine. The secondary fermentation is done using must rather than added sugar. Only in absolutely optimal years do we use our grapes for Sekt production. A young sparkling wine is aged at least four years on the lees before being released in small batches for final production. This ensures optimal freshness. Some 20% of the base wines are fermented and matured in barrique casks, which lends the finished Sekt a creamy, spicy character. Classic méthode champenoise and classic Pinot Meunier grapes. Our Blanc de Noir has a lot in common with French Champagne. The only difference lies in its origin: selected parcels of Weingut Heitinger, which gives the Sekt a distinctive, soft fruity note. On the nose, aromas of brioche, black currant, and yeast; on the palate, full-bodied and creamy, with a fine, tingling effervescence.
