Singer Estate 2022 Viognier
Stephen has been a Rhône aficionado since his earliest days, his tastes formed by the likes of Chave and Ch. Grillet. Initially, he planted Viognier to co-ferment with Syrah, in the style of Côte Rôtie. But the quality of the grapes he was growing begged for a dedicated wine to be made from them. Greg has conjured all the aromatic possibilities of this queenly grape – honeysuckle, jasmine, apricots – but his genius has been to avoid the sprawl and fatness that it so often manifests, not just in California but in today’s Condrieu. Instead, we have a marvelously deft and balletic wine with the unmistakable sheen of class. 90 6-packs and 30 magnums produced.

Notes from the Producer: A Champagne press cycle was used for gentle extraction to maximize balance within the fruit/tannin profile. The protracted cool weather of the growing season was responsible both for extending valuable flavor accumulating hang time facilitating exceptional acid retention for our fruit. With a textbook period of perfect fin de saison warmth, the grapes glided in to full phenolic maturity leading to a wine that conveys all of the exciting hallmarks of Viognier (lavish floral and stone fruit sparkle and charm coupled with a compellingly textured mouthfeel) that is tethered to an uncommonly vivid measure of palate brightening acidity.
