Heitlinger 2016 Pinot Noir Wormsberg Grosses Gewaechs
There are excellent reasons for this wine’s giddy price. The tiny Grosse Lage vineyard is a bowl at the top of the Kapellenberg that plunges at an angle of 70 degrees. The soils of red marl and chalk are especially apt for the Pinot Noir vines, which were actually only planted in 2012, after Claus singled out the site as the most privileged he had for the king of grapes at the estate. Even the young vines have borne out his conviction, for the results have been of palpably top class. When Burg Ravensburg celebrated its 770th birthday recently, the Wormsberg effortlessly held its own against burgundies and others that cost very much more. TEN 6-PACKS AVAILABLE.
