Antonio Madeira 2019 "A Palheira" Tinto
The apotheosis of Serra d’Estrela old vines field-blend, albeit on a base of about 50% Baga, this has all the virtues of the Vinhas Velhas elevated to a degree of refinement and perfumed intensity that scream of class. Made from two plots – one planted to 60 year-old Baga, the other a centenarian field blend – this cuvée was exceptionally separated out in 2017 because of its transcendent quality. The svelte, contained and simmering palate is just a cauldron of expressively mineral-infused red fruit. About 1700 bottles were produced.

Notes from the Producer: A Palheira 2017 is a blend of 2 of the best old vineyards cultivated by Antonio, one 60 years old vine where the Baga dominates, and the other100 years old vines where pink granite gives a special character to the wine. The wines of these 2 vines where so good in 2017 that we decided to bottle it separately from the others old vineyards that usually goes to the blend of 'Vinhas Velhas' red wine. So A Palheira 2017 shows the best results that we achieved in 2017 reds.
