Claus Schneider 2022 Spätburgunder Loerrach
In 2019, Schneider rented a new vineyard named after the neighboring town of Lörrach, on the leeward side of the Tüllinger hill. A worthy successor to the silky vom Kalkstein, Lörrach offers a wonderous lesson in the paradoxical mysteries of growing Pinot Noir. The feature of being Schneider’s coolest site on the foothills of the Black Forest is precisely what gives Johannes unhurried focus to nail the harvest date of his last vineyard to ripen. Far from being anemic, the reward is a hauntingly perfumed Pinot Noir, confident in its inviting silkiness and sylvan appeal.
