  • Quinta das Bageiras

Quinta das Bageiras Quinta das Bageiras The Alves Nuño family has run this 21 hectare estate for four generations. They used to sell the majority of their grapes to the well-known firm Caves San Joao, but went fully independent in 1989. Baga is the region’s claim to fame - a tannic, acidic and just plain old-fashioned grape which needs coaxing to express its charms. Our man Mário Sérgio Alves Nuño, now ably abetted by his son Frederico, makes Baga the traditional way, fermented in concrete lagares and aged in large, old oak ovals. With some age, it develops a stunningly expressive nose and is a powerfully structured wine perfect with the local specialty, roast suckling pig. We are now importing his sparkling wines as well, which represent 60% of his production. It should also be mentioned that Mário Sérgio is arguably Portugal’s finest distiller, and his long-aged vinegar is the stuff of legend. He is also one of the kindest and most generous people we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. It is a huge privilege to be his importer. 1/0 Producer: Quinta das Bageiras Country: Portugal Region: Bairrada City of Origin: Fogueira Date Founded: 1989 Owner Name: Mário Sérgio Alves Nuno Vineyard Size: 30 HA Total Annual Production: 120,000 bottles Download Info Sheet Property History: "There goes Fausto to his Bágeiras vineyard" That's how the population of Fogueira named the project I created in 1989. Fausto was my paternal grandfather, whose vineyards I collected with others from my maternal grandfather to establish the first wine company in Bairrada in over 20 years. With the paramount support of my father Abel, 12 hectares of vineyard that until then produced wine sold in bulk were transformed into wines bottled with our brand. Another 16 hectares were later added to the original vineyard area, always in the best Bairrada terroir. My belief was a simple one: I wanted the production of our wines to be accomplished through traditional methods, without ignoring the constant developments observed in the fields of viticulture and oenology. That is why, for example, all our grapes are handpicked, our red wines are produced in lagares without added yeasts and why our sparkling wines have no residual sugar. I believe quality means nothing without identity. Therefore, we respect wine as it respects us and we always devote ourselves to it as a family, with a passion that has lasted for three generations. • Pateromichelakis

Pateromichelakis Pateromichelakis Crete is the largest island in the Mediterranean, which means that it offers marked climatic, geographical and even cultural differences within its expansive bounds. The wines of Chania on the western side of the isle diverge markedly from those of Heraklion, making the inclusion in our range of a second producer quite logical. The brothers Pateromichelakis are essentially two local olive farmers speaking the thick Cretan dialect who happen to make wine – but WHAT wine it is! We were especially impressed by the reds here, above all those made from autochthonous varieties. 1/0 Producer: Pateromichelakis Country: Greece Region: Crete Subregion: Chania City of Origin: Lousakies Owner Name: Yiannis and Manos Pateromihelakis Download Info Sheet Property History: They own 5ha of organically farmed vineyards in Kissamos region of western Chania. The majority of grapes are coming from the vineyard “Domata (Tho-ma-ta) at an altitude of 300 metres overlooking the Aegean sea and benefiting from the north cool breezes which help in perfect ripening conditions and retaining acidity in the grapes. The winery is producing wines from Romeiko, Mavrotragano and Assyrtiko grapes. Owner History: Pateromihelakis “π” Winery is a newly founded winery with a long family tradition in viticulture, winemaking and in organic olive oil making. The family was a very important wine making producer in the western part of Crete until the second world war. Yiannis and Manos, the twin brothers of the family, decided in 2005 to revive the legacy and started experimental vinifications of Romeiko, the most significant indigenous grape variety of Chania prefecture, and also Mavrotragano, a very important black variety of the Cyclades. Notes from the Producer: Our winery is strongly associated with the revival of viticulture and vinification of the indigenous Kydonitsa variety which is native to Laconia. This is a wine that we produced after many yaers of working with Kydonitsa grapes and carefuly observing its potential. The thick, tannic skin of the grape is used along with patience and time in our winemaking protocol to create a wine with texture and character and dimention. We source our grapes from a particular vineyard in Velies-the village where Yiorgos Tsimbidis our founder was born and grew up in- that has showed more palate driven wines with aging potential. Overall, it is a wine that represents our region and winery very originally. Deep yellow color, aromas of quince, citrus peels, dried herbs, notes of sourdough. Intense flavor, acidity and a subbtle tannic backround. Tongue tingling quince, apricot and phenolic smokiness all parts of the rich texture of a wine that explodes in the palate and leaves a wonderfully long aftertaste. It has a fresh bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, light floral and orange blossom scents. The palate is well-balanced and lightly spiced, with good definition, grainy tannins and a very elegant and persistent finish. I look forward to tasting this from bottle - great potential.‘ Neal Martin, 91-93 ‘This is the unoaked cuvée, which can be a little austere in most vintages, but in the rich exuberance of 2022, it works. Remains a little tart in its acidity but there is great depth and intent to the black fruits, and momentum through the palate...’ Jane Anson, 90 ‘Notes of blue fruit and violets with spices and wet stones. Medium-bodied, toned and crunchy with fine-grained, silky tannins. Fresh finish.’ James Suckling, 91-92 ‘The Cuve 8a by Canon Chaigneau is characterized by fresh, floral nuances. The bouquet reveals delicate notes of peonies and the refreshing scent of raspberries. The fruit intensity can also be found in the beginning. The wine is of good density, tasty and is supported by tannins that are still somewhat firm, but harmonizing with the acid structure. Txakoli Zudugarai Txakoli Zudugarai Txakoli lovers know that the rain in Spain falls mainly on the Atlantic coast, and not on the plain! It is no mean feat to overcome the climatic forces arrayed against them, but the Zudugarai family achieves miracles, even within the constraints of the biodynamic methods they employ, to craft simply exemplary wines in Getaria, which is for many the heartland of the Txakoli region. Screenshot 2025-07-16 at 4.47.11 PM.png Screenshot 2025-07-16 at 4.47.11 PM.png 1/1 Producer: Txakoli Zudugarai Country: Spain Region: EUSKADI Subregion: GIPUZKOA City of Origin: AIA Date Founded: 1994 Vineyard Size: 15 Total Annual Production: 15,000 cases Download Info Sheet Property History: Family winery Zudugarai and the txakolis that we have been making for more than 75 years. The Zudugarai winery works with the aim of safeguarding txakoli as a unique local product. New techniques and formulas are being introduced in viticulture and production methods with the ultimate aim of seeking to improve the characteristics of txakoli. The aim is not to obtain a drink that is different from the traditional one, but to improve it. The autochthonous varieties HONDARRABI ZURI and HONDARRABI BELTZA give our white and rosé txakolis that singularity that differentiates them from the rest of the national and international wines. We like to intervene very little in the production of our txakolis and we have followed the same rule in the production of our sparkling wine. With a very limited and exclusive production, made following the traditional method, we have respected the primary aromas of the Hondarrabi Zuri variety, in order to obtain a sparkling wine that expresses the primary aromas of this variety. Owner History: Txakoli Zudugarai its a family winery where the effort and dedication of three generations always linked to txakoli production converge. Our family directlly control every process, from the selection of the grapes, to the cellars storage. We aim to produce an authentic wine, following tradition and using the lates technologies. The owners of Txakoli Zudugarai (Errasti´s brothers, Vicente, JºMari and Patxi) have a long-standing experience in growing grapes and producing Txakoli, a young, very dry white wine unique to the Basque Country, an experience which stretches back many years before the Getariako Txakolina Designation of Origin was first created in 1989.
