Dom. Theulot-Juillot
Émile and Marguerite Juillot founded this Mercurey estate in 1930, and the parcels they chose were recognized as premier cru from the appellation's earliest days. In 1987 Marguerite passed it to her granddaughter Nathalie, a rare matriarchal succession. Nathalie and her husband Jean-Claude Theulot have since carried it into the top rank of the appellation; so complete was the transformation they wrought that the domaine's name was changed from Émile Juillot to Theulot-Juillot in recognition. Today they farm twelve hectares across six Mercurey premier crus, among them the monopole La Cailloute. The wines are old-fashioned Burgundy in the best sense, serious and age-worthy, showing off both the aromatic joys of Pinot Noir and the particular character of those crus. They are not prettified in any way, because they do not need to be.

Property History:
A female line of inheritance. Although it was Emile Juillot who founded the Domaine and developed its terroirs, it was finally his wife who passed the estate on to her granddaughter, Nathalie, in 1987. This type of transmission from woman to woman is quite rare, exceptional even, and is one of the Domaine’s particularities that is a source of immense pride. Today the estate is managed by Nathalie Theulot with the support of her husband.
