Georges Remy

Georges Remy farms less than six hectares, but those hectares sit in four of the most coveted Crus in Champagne — Bouzy, Ambonnay, Louvois, and Tauxières (1er) — making him, alongside Diebolt-Vallois, one of the two Grand Cru anchors in our portfolio. We were fortunate enough to visit Georges just as he was releasing his first sparkling vintage (2014, though he has been producing still reds commercially since 2011), and have watched him take his time getting things right ever since. Remy achieved biodynamic certification in 2020, and practices sélection massale exclusively from his oldest parcels. The house style is to harvest ripe, never chaptalize, and vinify 100% in oak, a combination still relatively rare in Champagne, and one that produces wines of unmistakable vinous authority. Georges vinifies only about 20% of his production, which means quantities are absolutely minuscule; we receive homeopathic allocations of his most sought-after single-parcel wines.

We began vinifying Champagne hillsides in 2011 and had our first harvest in 2014. The plots are located in 4 villages: Bouzy, Tauxiéres, Ambonnay and Louvois. Viticulture has been organic since 2014 and certified since 2018.

Owner History:

We have been winegrowers from father to son since 1629 and owner of vines in Bouzy since 1812. My grandfather started making wine in 1950. My father took over, before deciding in 1989 to sell all of his production to Champagne Deutz. We still sell part of our production at Deutz.
