Elodie and Matthieu Collet were agronomy engineers with successful careers in the north of France before they fell for Tautavel and gave it all up to make wine there, taking over Domaine Fontanel from Pierre and Marie-Claude Fontaneil in 2016. Pierre built the place across nearly thirty years into a Roussillon benchmark, and he stayed on to hand over what six generations before him had farmed since 1864. The Collets kept his painstaking bent while easing the reds toward finer tannins (though, as Elodie puts it, best not to tell Pierre). Twenty-five hectares straddle the terroirs of Tautavel and Rivesaltes, yielding dry Côtes du Roussillon Villages reds alongside the fortified wines that made the northern Catalan country famous: the amber Rivesaltes, the Muscat de Rivesaltes, and a Rancio Sec made in an almost-vanished style.
