Boeckel 2018 Pinot Noir "K"
The “K” stands for Kirchberg, a great Grand Cru site in Barr, the next village over, just 2 km. away. Boeckel bought a parcel of 0.42 ha. and planted it to Pinot Noir in 2012, calculating that its limestone-rich soils and due-south exposition were especially well-suited to this variety, which has so captured their imagination. And were they ever right! We were quite overwhelmed by the combination of contained but seductive ripeness, varietal precision and salty minerality in this unfined and unfiltered Pinot. For a wine of this class, the price is frankly nugatory.
