PFP-DNB24 View Fílipa Páto's Producer Page Fílipa Páto 2024 Dinamico Baga (Bairrada) Bairrada is a region rich in small holdings of old vines planted on limestone soils with excellent qualities. This new wine is the happy result of Filipa’s and William’s ceaseless search for good sources of grapes to supplement their own to meet the burgeoning demand for their wines. Entirely consistent with the familiar FP Baga, which it replaces in the range, you will find it to have the familiar aromatic flair, thoughtful balance and sheer deliciousness that have made Filipa the shining star that she is. The vineyards are fully controlled by us. Winemaker’s Notes: Our “D.N.M.C.” philosophy is that Baga from different locations gives a more complex wine. Each location has its own expression of Baga. This for us is a real terroir-driven wine and a nice example of Baga with a fruity character and soft tannins. Every plot is vinified apart and at the end, we assemble all of them into one balanced unique “cuvée”, “Dinamica” - D.N.M.C Colour: It shows a deeper, brilliant cherry colour with a well-present viscosity. Bouquet: Distinguished elegant fruit-driven nose with a typical strawberry and damson plum touch, often with nuances of licorice, slightly spicy (black pepper, laurel, thyme, rosemary, …) Taste: On the palate, fruity with a nice beautiful structure and an almost velvety texture with a very fresh and inviting aftertaste. Gastronomic Accompaniments: A real crowd-pleaser, this wine combines excellently with a nice platter of charcuterie, a nice crunchy vegetable salad, grilled fish, grilled white meats and poultry and dry cheeses (Queijo Sao Jorge, Edam, Mimolette). Serve it at 14-16°C in elegant glassware and preferably aerated before serving. Baga tends to be slightly reductive when it has not been aged in oak… All Fílipa Páto Wines Fílipa Páto 2023 Missao Baga Bairrada Red View Wine Fílipa Páto 2024 Post Quercus Baga Red Bio-dynamic View Wine Fílipa Páto 2022 S.L. There were a few thunderstorms in late spring which mostly affected our vineyards around La Rosa, and thankfully not Bandeiras which was largely dry. Whilst most of western Europe was burning, the Douro experienced a relatively cool summer with normal temperatures. At the end of August we had some days of extreme temperaturesbut by the 28th the heat had calmed down giving ideal ripening conditions. We had two periods of rain during September which meant we had to start and stop picking more than normal. Thanks to good viticultural practices, the grapes held up remarkably well and, despite the rain, there was virtually no sign of any rot. PDA-RET21 View Domínio do Açor's Producer Page Domínio do Açor 2021 Reserva Tinto This masterly wine, which has to be one of the best Portuguese reds from anywhere that we have ever tasted, sealed the deal. Several people have commented on the uncanny evocation of Syrah, which Luis attributes to the manifestation of Alfrocheiro in the Dão (quite different from Alentejo, where it resembles more Pinot Noir). But there is no doubting the irresistible combination of celestial floral scents and sumptuous texture, all enrobed in a strikingly dark but brilliant color. Deep and complex, with a matrix of red fruit at the precise point of ripeness, framed by earthy and mineral elements, fine spices, forest and balsamic notes. Extremely fine in the mouth, the subtlety of the extraction and the vibrant intensity of the flavor are remarkable. Tannins of immense quality, giving the wine a firm yet silky texture. Freshness and sapidity persist in the long finish. Primary Vineyard Name Selection of our best Alfrocheiro Preto 60% from Vinha Nascente (3,72ha) and Touriga Nacional 40% from Vinha Romana (2,50ha). VINHA NASCENTE = VINEYARD TOUCHED BY THE RISING SUN (EAST) VINHA ROMANA = In our region of Dão there are countless traces of ancient civilizations, dating back to the 5th millennium BC, passing through the Celts and Romans. Even in our domaine, where several Roman artifacts were found (exhibited in the Carregal do Sal museum) linked to agriculture, when the vineyard that we now call the Vinha Romana was implemented in the 90s. According to the archaeologist we hired to help us explain our past, Domínio do Açor was probably a Roman farm at the time, which is why we named our entry-level wines Vila Romana, and this vineyard, VINHA ROMANA. Soil Types Granite Elevation (meters) 283-299 Vine Age 24 Yields (hl/ha) 40 Farming Practices Practicing organic, practicing regenerative Harvest Method Hand-harvested Additional Harvest Notes SOIL: Granite. Very well mixed between soil and rocks, more precisely between the silt typical of granitic soils, with alterites or rocks degraded by the chemical and physical processes of weathering, as well as quartz and the mother-rock granite. Level 4 / 5 alterite predominates in all the vineyards of Domínio do Açor. Other Vineyard Details CLIMATE/GEOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS: The climate of Dão is moderate continental, clearly marked by the mountain ranges that surround it and protect it from the Atlantic influence. Average annual temperature: 14°C - 16°C, average summer temperature: 18°C - 20°C, maximum daily temperature range in summer: 20°C. Domínio do Açor enjoys the freshness and continentality of the Dão, but at the same time its mesoclimate is drier and less marginal than in Serra da Estrela. The grapes ripen slowly and with immense balance between sugars and acids, and a high concentration of aromatic precursors. Vinha da Nascente 3,72ha, planted mostly in 1990, some lines in 2003, grape varieties: Jaen, Alfrocheiro, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Pinheira and Tinta Roriz (the last gradually being replaced by Tinta Pinheira, Baga and other heirloom grape varieties from the Dão through grafting in the field) Notes from the Producer: Luís Lopes winemaker: "One of the ways to express a mix of finesse and power of Dão, without Touriga Nacional being so evident, is to co-ferment this variety with Alfrocheiro Preto. This synergy of Alfrocheiro-Touriga is very energetic, and Alfrocheiro fills the void of Touriga (very external structure of tannnins), giving mid-palate and amazing length to it." This wine is a selection of our very finest Alfrocheiro (a local variety very close in style to Syrah: spicy, herbal, red & black wild berries, tannins on the tongue), co-fermented with our very best Touriga Nacional. Soil Types Granite Elevation (meters) max 296m, min 288m Vine Age 24 years Yields (hl/ha) Average 40 Farming Practices Practicing organic, practicing regenerative Other Vineyard Details This vineyard is very interesting, because we discovered with Pedro Parra, our terroir consultant, that our Encruzado there is planted on a "grand cru" level granite alterite, while the 30% of Malvasia Fina and 20% Cerceal-Branco are planted on a "villages" level soils, because of an old creek that used to pass through this plot in the past. Notes from the Producer: Lus Lopes winemarker: "Remarkably, it is a variety that produces wines that age very well. When young or bottled early, this variety is quite neutral. Aging on lees in new barrels increases its potential. We prefer bigger sizes to avoid too much interference on the savoury taste profile of the variety". As the whites ripen sooner than the white it brings some richness and masks the tannins, so it is drinkable sooner than the reds.
